Onewest.net sold to Sitestar

OneWest.net, an internet-service provider founded by a Jackson Hole group in the early 1990s, announced on March 1 that it has sold to Lynchburg, Virginia-based Sitestar, a publicly traded technology company.

In 2004, OneWest.net was sold to Steve Mossbrook, a Riverton man whose OW Holdings company included Onewest.net and Wyoming.com, a company he still owns.

Mossbrook explained that he sold off OneWest.net in part because of its reliance on hardware produced by Quest DSL, a competitor.

“Basically, we were reselling” the competitor’s product, he said over the phone on Tuesday.
Mossbrook said that Onewest.net is made up of a handful of “disparate ISPs,” which does little to engender customer loyalty.

A press release issued by Sitestar says that the company “anticipates the migration of the OneWest.net customer base to [our] own infrastructure to be seamless and smooth.”

With the OneWest.net acquisition, Sitestar picked up a wider customer base not only in Wyoming, but also Idaho and Montana, states with much larger markets, Mossbrook said.

“Its unfortunate that we had to sell some folks in Wyoming” in the deal, said Mossbrook, who sold OneWest.net for an undisclosed amount.

Wyoming.com will now compete against OneWest.net for a Wyoming subscriber base.
