Jackson Hole, Wyo.-On Thanksgiving Day, a number of Jackson Hole restaurants will open their doors to offer meals that sometimes resemble traditional Thanksgiving spreads, and sometimes look more like gourmet re-interpretations of holiday favorites.
Whether aimed at visitors, emigrants without family close by (or anywhere), or those who simply prefer to let someone else handle the cooking and cleanup, the following valley eateries will offer the beloved American feed for budgets starting at zero and going up from there.
Keeping a tradition going strong, the Teton Steakhouse (40 W. Pearl) will serve a full, classic Thanksgiving meal free of charge for the 22nd year in a row. Alongside the roasted turkey, a buffet will feature a salad bar, rolls, potatoes, stuffing and other favorite sides.
“Anybody and everybody is welcome,” said Sunnie Mason, whose parents, Ann and Jan Bates opened Teton Steakhouse. No one’s going to make you help clean up, but most people pitch in. The restaurant also will accept donations for a Christmas gift-giving program.
Almost as traditional as Thanksgiving itself, Snow King Resort will host its annual Thanksgiving Brunch 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Atrium. The lavish feast includes a selection of appetizers (such as buffalo pate, pheasant springrolls, and artichoke and tomato crostini), sides (haricort verts, yams, garlic whipped potatoes), soups and salads, and entrees (turkey with the traditional accompaniments or prime rib), followed by dessert. Cost is $39.99 for adults, $36.95 for seniors, $19.95 for children 12 and under, with small plates available for children under 6. Make a reservation at 734-3236.
Down at the Wort Hotel’s famous Silver Dollar Grill (50 N. Glenwood), $35 permits access to a royal spread that will include prime rib, ham, smoked salmon, Alaskan king crab and all the sides. A dinner seating will occur every one and a half hours starting at 11 a.m., with the last call at 3:30 p.m. Call 733-2190 for details.
The Cascade Grill House (3385 W. Village Dr.), located inside Teton Mountain Lodge in Teton Village, will offer a prix fixe menu with starter options like corn bisque and salad. Entrée choices are turkey with tarragon stuffing, seared sea bass or buffalo tenderloin, followed by dessert. Dinner costs $45 for adults, $35 for kids, and will be served between 3-9 p.m. Make reservations at 732-6932.
Three courses are also the theme at the Westbank Grill (in the Four Seasons at Teton Village). If oven-roasted butternut squash soup followed with pepper-crusted beef tenderloin before warm chocolate pudding cake sounds too good to miss (the Grill will also offer turkey and other menu items), call 732-5620. Reservations are required. Dinner, served 6-9 p.m., costs $68 per person.
And for all the trimmings with a view to boot, the Amangani Grill (1535 N East Butte Rd.) at the Amangani Resort will offer choices of scallops, roasted elk loin, roasted turkey, lobster and sea bass, beef tenderloin and braised ox tail. Dinner begins at 3 p.m. and costs $85 for adults, $42.50 for kids. Call 734-7333 for details and to make reservations.
And finally, Home Sweet Homemade has three special Thanksgiving menus you can pick up and take home. The work-study program for valley students, which is now operating out of Pub Place south of town, also will sell whole roasted turkeys, deep dish “Holiday Pie,” appetizer trays and more. Call 734-1568 for details.
