Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Jackson resident Dr. Devra Davis has been getting a lot of attention lately – including testimony in September in front of the U.S. Senate – for insisting that cell phones be labeled prominently with a warning about their potential to cause cancer. Cell phone manufacturers already include this warning, she says, but buried deep within the instruction manuals (see “Letters,” page 4).
However, cell phone radiation is only one of several environmental factors culpable for up to 90 percent of all cancers, according to information provided by Davis and The Environmental Health Trust, which she founded.
Others include the various chemicals and toxins found in plastics and mammograms, for example. Davis and local pediatrician Dr. Lisa Ridgway will discuss ways to avoid these environmental risks on Monday. – MI
The Environmental Health Forum is, 7:30 p.m. March 15, at Teton County Library. Free.
