Wednesday, May 30, 2007

By Sam Petri

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-The 33rd annual Miles for Money fun run starts at noon on Sunday at Kelly Elementary School and travels up to 20 kilometers in Grand Teton National Park. Participants of all ages are encouraged to come help raise money for The Learning Center, a nonprofit that offers early education and intervention services for children under age 5 in Western Wyoming.

“We’ve had a six-week-old baby in a stroller participate, all the way to a 92-year-old,” Executive Director Judy Montagne said of the family event.

Racers will have the option of running, walking, biking or riding horses in a 5k or 20k race – or both. Registration is $10 for adults.

Participating grade school and middle school students have been collecting pledges in lieu of an entry fee to be donated to The Learning Center. Students who raise the most money are eligible for prizes, such as a Disney vacation package, a trip to the Lagoon Park near Salt Lake City, or a Fun in Jackson Hole Prize package.

Check-in time for runners and riders is 11:30-11:55 on race day. Runners will leave at noon, riders at 12:15 p.m
., from Kelly Elementary and travel out toward Gros Ventre Junction and back.

An awards ceremony will take place at 3 p.m. at Kelly Elementary.
Pledge Packets and registration forms can be submitted at The Learning Center’s office at 172 N. Center St., Suite 201; or mail them to P.O Box 4100, Jackson, WY 83001. For more details, call The Learning Center at 733-1616 ext. 15 or email creynolds@learningcenterwy.org.
