Jackson, the county seat for Teton County, Wyo., had a permanent resident population of 8,647 in 2000, eight of whom are dedicated, full-time employees at Planet Jackson Hole. Jackson is the name of the town and the large valley region surrounding it is frequently referred to as Jackson Hole.
Fifty-four percent of the population in town is male while 46 percent is female and the average age in Jackson is 30.8 – young enough to take advantage of the area's amazing recreational activities. An estimated 89 percent of Jackson's population is Caucasian and the Hispanic/Latino community has been steadily growing, representing nearly 12 percent of the total.
Given the significance of the tourism industry in Jackson Hole, 24 percent of the population works in the service industry, which includes arts, food service, entertainment, recreation and lodging. The region has also been undergoing a growth spurt in the last decade and 14 percent of the population works in the construction field.
