Well-being and peace of mind bottled up

By Teresa Griswold

Can you relax, have sweet dreams or get an energy burst, simply by twisting off a cap, slathering on some cream, drinking water or chewing special gum? Apparently so.

I’m just in from New York, and there I discovered all sorts of indulgent products promising just that.

First I found a display of Philosophy brand skin care products at Sephora, a multi-floored, retail beauty chain.

Philosophy lotions and potions were stacked neatly in glass containers, labeled with simple graphics, and caught my imagination with names like “hope in a jar” and “purity made simple.”

I was most curious about the Philosophy product called “falling in love” which is a daily, topical pheromone formulated by a scientist to enhance well-being.

They say it can change how you feel about yourself and how others feel about you. Hmmm. If you want to learn more visit www.philosophy.com.

It’s worth it, because there’s a free downloadable gratitude journal and a guru booklet that may be more beneficial in promoting well-being than the products they sell.

At the Origins store, a national chain, their mission is to promote beauty and wel
lness through multi-sensory products and feel-good experiences.

Making use of aromatic plants, earth and sea substances and other natural resources, their formulas are serious, but their products encourage serious fun.

They consider your moods, your emotions, your lifestyle and your state of mind. One interesting product is the Origins’ “Peace of Mind Gumballs” —made with peppermint, basil and eucalyptus — which promise to blissfully melt tension away within minutes of chewing.

A companion product, “Peace of Mind On-the-Spot Relief” is a mind-clearing formula that takes only two dabs on the back of your neck, temples or earlobes to relieve pressure, tension and tightness.

And instead of traveling all the way to West Broadway, browse their product line at www.origins.com.

I read an ad in Body and Soul magazine for a product called “Rescue Remedy” while standing around at an airport newsstand.

It’s a spray that, they claim, can work as well as a one-hour yoga class to reduce stress. “Just two quick sprays to your tongue help bring your mind and spirit back into balance, so you can find your inner calm.”

According to their Web site, www.rescueremedy.com, the formula was developed by Dr. Edward Bach over 60 years ago when he recognized the need for an emergency treatment to help people cope with everyday stressful situations.

Ingredients include Rock Rose for panic, Impatiens for irritation, Clematis for inattentiveness, Star of Bethlehem for shock, and Cherry Plum for irrational thoughts. Today, Rescue Remedy is relied upon by people around the world to provide them with unconditional support. So, I’m thinking if your partner isn’t giving you the love you want ...

The most inspired product of all and perhaps the most fun, was one I found right here at home at the Jackson Whole Grocer called Aquamantra. What is it? It’s a natural spring water that resonates with the energy and frequency of well-being, according to their Web site.

They say, the quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your life.

Therefore, if you think, I mean drink, the Aquamantra waters while reminding yourself that either “I am Healthy”, “I am Loved”, or “I am Lucky” (mantras that they’ve trademarked) then these things will manifest in your life.

And if they don’t, you can still visit www.aquamantra.com and sign up for their free Lifestyle Membership where “you will learn how to manifest anything you desire.”
There you have it, instant wellness.

Then again, since we all have to sleep perhaps the best way to achieve well-being without having to empty our wallets, think repetitive positive thoughts, or chew gum, is in this thought from Benjamin Franklin, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.”
