Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Headliners for the 2009 Teton Wellness Festival, Oct. 9 to 11, include Cesar Millan, known as the “Dog Whisperer” from his show on National Geographic TV, and renowned cardiologist Dr. Mimi Guarneri, founder and medical director of The Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine, but perhaps the biggest headliner is our local community.
The kick-off event for the festival is free and focuses on bringing the community together in a celebration that offers up soul-enriching art, music and healthy food and drinks.
“There’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm around the event,” said Marcia Craighead, executive director of Teton Wellness Institute. “We wanted to include anyone who was interested in wellness, even if they felt they couldn’t pay for the festival. Our goal is to reach as many people as possible and collaborate with businesses and organizations that are community-minded and on a similar path.”
The JH Jewish Community, the Jackson Whole Grocer, Green Drinks Jackson Hole, and The Center of Wonder are a smattering of what will be served up at the free
“Eat, Love, Play” event held at the Center for the Arts, Friday
.
Following the free event, Guarneri will share stories of her personal journey, in which her patients helped her unravel the mysteries of the heart. She will discuss the heart as a complex organ and explore all aspects of the whole heart from the mental heart that is affected by stress to the emotional and spiritual heart, which loves and communicates with others. She will lead the audience in a group exercise designed to help develop our own road map for healing.
Millan will share his insight into the connection between healthy lives and relationships with pets on Saturday evening. In his presentation, participants will learn how they inadvertently play a role in their dog’s behavioral “issues” and how to change the dynamic by learning to see the world from their pet’s point of view.
In another festival highlight, Gary Zukav, New York Times best-selling author of the Seat of the Soul, and his spiritual partner, Linda Francis will present tools on how to empower yourself in new ways by utilizing courage and love in place of fear on Sunday.
The festival continues for two and a half days and celebrates the pursuit of wellness through presentations, body-movement activities and exhibits, featuring a variety of healing modalities in one event including movement, spiritual practice, psychology, preventive medicine, and integrative medicine.
