Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Canadian folk-rockers The Duhks, a quintet featuring guitar, banjo, fiddle, percussion, and a lead vocalist, aren’t your run-of-the-mill folkies. Bringing everything from soul, gospel, Brazilian samba, and old time country string band music to zydeco and Irish dance music to the stage, their performances are a lesson in world music.
The group of twenty-somethings has earned their share of recognition too - a Grammy nomination in the Best Country Vocal Performance by a Group of Duo category, a Juno Award, two Folk Alliance awards, and an Americana Music Association nomination for Best Emerging Artists. Chances are, these guys are the real deal.
Check The Duhks out for yourself at 10 p.m. on Thursday at the Mangy Moose in Teton Village. Tickets are $15 at the door. For more information call 733-9779 or visit
www.mangymoose.net. See ya there.

If you don’t already know phenomenal Dubois guitarist Mike Dowling, I recommend you get to know him this week. Reviving a vintage sound that swings bottleneck blues, ragtime and folk, the soloist has a new disc,“The Blues Ain’t News,” and two new homespun instructional DVDs coming this spring: “Swinging it Solo” and “More Bottleneck Blues.” Always a treat for the ears, your two chances to catch Dowling in action are at 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the Trap Bar at Grand Targhee Resort. Both shows are free.
