Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Every year Dancer’s Workshop brings the community extraordinary events. World-renowned companies dance at the Center for the Arts. Holiday productions are performed and local children learn the beauty of dance from professionals.
Now is the chance for the public to give back to DW. The annual summer gala has returned, bringing a globally famous company to Jackson.
The gala is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13, at the Center Theater located at the Center for the Arts. For this year’s fundraising event, DW is offering cocktails and hors d’ouevres prior to the performance of San Francisco’s LINES Ballet. Following the performance, audience members can learn the tricks of the trade at the “meet the artist” reception, while enjoying dessert and champagne.
All proceeds from the event will profit DW’s performance program, which includes the school, concerts, new dances, holiday productions and presenting company productions.
LINES Ballet is considered by some to be one of the most phenomenal ballet companies currently in the nation. Though their artistic talent lies in contemporary ballet, all dancers are classically trained, which results in a sensual and delicate performance. They bend the boundaries of ballet traditions, while revamping the movement of western dance.
They will be presenting two works each of about 35 to 40 minutes. Their costume detailing reflects dedication and helps emphasize the creative choreography created by Alonzo King.
For anyone unable to attend the gala, LINES will be performing again at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. In addition, they will be offering open rehearsals, which are free to the public, and a chance to participate in intermediate and advanced master classes.
For tickets to the gala or Saturday night’s performance call the box office at 733-4900. For more information on LINES, open rehearsals or master classes call DW at 733-6398 or visit www.dwjh.org.
Zumba as cultural exchangeThere is more to working out than just treadmill running, smelly sneakers and sweaty bodies. Zumba is sweeping the nation and is about to take Jackson by storm with the help of the Teton County Library. These classes are sure to provide opportunities for the community to learn (and sweat) together.
“Zumba” is Colombian for fast moving and is a combination of dance and fitness classes. It combines low-impact and high-energy dance moves with an incorporation of influences ranging from hip-hop to salsa.
The classes are free and open to the public from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on June 6, 20 and 27. Instruction is offered in English and Spanish. Comfortable attire is highly recommended. Though drop-ins are welcome, but attendance to all three classes is a must for those seeking zumba master status.
For more information contact the library’s Latino Program Coordinator Patty Rocha at 733-2164, ext. 237.
