Presented by the Pinedale Fine Arts Council, The 2nd Annual Sound Check Outdoor Music Fest will feature headliner Jalan Crossland Band, 5 p.m., Saturday, at American Legion Park in Pinedale. Ever dexterous with several banjo and guitar pickin’ awards under his belt, Crossland’s brand of alt-country is honest and witty from the back porch of his Tensleep, Wyoming home.
His third studio release, Trailer Park Fire & Other Tragedies, is full of musical gems and unforeseen subjects. Openers include Jackson’s Screen Door Porch and Pinedale singer-songwriter Terry Hill. The show is free (donations appreciated).

•Betty Rock Café will present new ensemble, Braziliana, 7:30 p.m., Saturday. The band is comprised of five staples of the local jazz community—vocalist Juliane Kowski, Keith Phillips on keyboard, Chris Moran on guitar, bassist Mike Rossi, and drummer Ed Domer. The group focuses on Brazilian Bossa Novas a la Jobim, Mendonca, and Gilberto, as well as Portuguese sambas and original arrangements of Chick Corea and Pat Metheny tunes. There’s a $10 cover, kids get in free, and the show is BYOB. 733-0747.
•Twenty-one year old Alaska native Emma Hill and Her Gentleman Callers are a six-piece Portland based, folk ensemble. Hill sounds more like a veteran vocalist on her first national tour, with a classic quality rooted in rural sweetness. Her band includes viola, bass, pedal steel, drums, guitar, and backing vocals. Hear them, 9:30 p.m., tonight, at the Mangy Moose. $7
•With shared influences ranging from Charlie Daniels, Waylon Jennings and Drive-By Truckers all the way to Frank Zappa and the Grateful Dead, Atlanta-based Outformation sparked from an unfortunate event—the passing of Widespread Panic guitarist Michael Houser.
Houser’s guitar tech and founder of Outformation, Sam Holt, formed the band soon thereafter, quickly earning “Best New Band” of 2005 in Honest Tune Magazine’s reader’s poll. He continues to tech for the band and was a guest guitarist when WP last played Snow King Amphitheater. Outformation has that southern rock Panic vibe with a country-psychedelic slant. The show starts, 10 p.m., Sunday, at 43 North. Call 733-0043 for door charge details. PJH
