Opening Lines

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-So, last Friday night in Jackson, we had not just one, but two, count ‘em, two art openings. Ohh Yea! Whoooo! Gonna look at some art boi, hells yea son!
First “Redefining Space” opened at the Art Association loft gallery. Curated by Cindy George with assistance from photographer John Stewart, the exhibition sought to incorporate the architecture, interior and exterior space of the gallery into art.
Now that’s nothing new if we lived in Brooklyn, but this is Jackson and a show that goes beyond framing the art and hanging it on a white wall is something out of the ordinary. Two-dimensional work was hung on walls of chicken wire with windows cut in them to divide the gallery space, kind of like the visitation window in prison, except the champagne was much better. Other work included paintings directly on the walls and pistol range targets hung off the side of the building.
The show succeeded in completely changing the environment of the loft gallery and was quite a lively affair.
On to show No. 2, like a screaming infant entering the world wet, a new gallery was birthed upon the Jackson Art scene. “Lines” a mountain sports gallery opened on Pearl St. I was shocked to find out that Lines has nothing to do with cocaine and is actually some obscure reference to skiing. Imagine that? The inaugural exhibition featured photographs by Daryl Miller and artwork by The Ruckus. Some of you may know him as Benji Person or just plain Ruckus. My best guess is that the artist has added an article to the front of his name in preparation for a new MTV 2 reality series co staring The Answer, The Situation, The Artist formerly known as Prince, and The Terminator.
The show also featured DJ Sessions on the wheels of steel, and some very tasty egg rolls courtesy of Bon Appe Thai. With my appetite aroused, I briefly considered going to Ignight, “A Great Restaurant and Bar.” But I instead, decided to have dinner with friends at Thai Me Up, a kick ass brewery. Coincidently, the bathrooms are covered wall-to-wall with paintings by The Ruckus that succeed in redefining the bathroom space. The men’s room even has a non-functioning glory hole seamlessly incorporated into the mural. Some of my loyal readers may not be familiar with a glory hole, and well I cannot explain it to you for fear of censorship. JHW
Redefining Space is open at the Art Association’s Loft Gallery until April 1 (not kidding). 733-6379.
Lines gallery is now open at 245 West Pearl (former location of Beads & Needs).
