Jackson Hole, Wyoming -
JHME helps locals shine This is a jam-packed week for nonprofit Jackson Hole Music Experience (JHME). Soulful singer-songwriter and Jackson native Isaac Hayden returns from Nashville, bringing a new album with him, Throw a Line—a self-recorded effort laid down in various locations across the country. Hayden will perform at Friday Live, 7 to 9 p.m., at Presbyterian Church of JH. $10; free to JHME members and kids.
In conjunction with its Rock & Roll Camp starting on Monday, JHME will throw the 3rd Annual Experience Party featuring Supertramp member and L.A. session player Carl Verheyen and his band. The event will also include a silent auction and an opening set by Larry Hestand Jazz Quartet. Party starts at 5:30 p.m., Monday, at Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis. $20 at Quizno’s and Jackson Hole Title & Escrow Co. www.jhme.org.
Funk: English styleEnglish soul-jazz quartet The New Mastersounds has been called “The Meters of the UK.” Epic funk instrumentals is its game—far more jam-oriented than the Meters were—with a classic B3 sound matched with Grant Green and Wes Montgomery-styled guitar runs. And trust me, these guys are tight. Opening the show is Denver’s classic funk-rocking band, The Fox Street All Stars. Showtime is 9:30 p.m., Thursday at the Pink Garter Theater. $15 at Tobacco Row and PoppaPresents.com.
Something freshElements of Portland, Ore.’s The Chicharones remind me of early Beastie Boys. Hip-hop may be the foundation, but pop, folk-rock and a comical lyrical approach may add up to the reason Spin called them “The Best Bar Band in America.” Add in costume changes, syncopated dance moves, stage magic and the 10-year collaboration of songwriters Sleep and Josh Martinez, and you’ll soon realize that this is a beat you may want to check. The Chicharones take stage at 9:30 p.m., Friday at the Mangy Moose in Teton Village. $8. www.mangymoose.net. – AD
