Jackson Hole, Wyoming - If you felt the ground shaking last month like I did, memories of high school geology class came screaming back in horror. Plate tectonics, earthquakes, magma, eruptions—all things you vaguely remember but can’t now that your cabinet doors just waved at you in unison. Either in response or by coincidence, volcanologist, Robert Tilling, will be giving a power point presentation called “Our Dynamic Earth: Plate Tectonics in Action.” Tilling is interested in discussing the development of the theory of plate tectonics, how it works, and how eruptions at Yellowstone and Hawaii are important to global plate tectonics. Tilling went to Yale for his graduate degree and is a member of the U.S. Geological Survey. He is also known for his public service through informative speeches and presentations given in and out of the U.S.
Our Dynamic Earth: Plate Tectonics in Action is 6 to 7 p.m., Sept. 7, Teton County Library. Free. www.tclib.org.
