Boarder dies from heart attack at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Thursday, January 25, 2007

By Sam Petri

On Wednesday January 24, at approximately 12:00 pm, Lawrence Quedado of Clearwater, Fla. collapsed at the base of Rendezvous Bowl at the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

As his group of friends descended the slope, one of the members in the group noticed Quedado slow down, then fall forward face down into the snow.

According to the Teton County Sheriff’s Department Press Release, Quedado did not try to stop his fall nor did he collide with anything to make him fall.

When Quedado did not get up, his group went to check on him. They initiated CPR after noticing he was unresponsive and not breathing. Ski Patrol was called. When Ski patrol arrived they continued CPR and used an Automated External Defibrillator. Quedado did not respond.

Taken to the base of the hill via toboggan, he was pronounced dead at 12:39 p.m. by a Medical Doctor at the clinic.

An autopsy performed that afternoon revealed that Lawrence Quedado had experienced a heart attack while snowboarding. There was evidence of previous heart attacks.

Quedado, 42, was a U.S Coast Guard helicopter pilot stationed in Florida.

Jerry Blann, President of JHMR commented in a press release on Wednesday. “The staff at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort join me in expressing our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased."

Larry, I'm going to miss your smile and upbeat attitude around the airstation. You were an awesome man to work with and I'll always remember you the day I flew out on deployment and you were on duty with your little yukalala. To Mrs Q and daughter, my heart goes out to you...please call on us at the airsta anytime you need a helping hand. You are our family now too. Jamie

- I remember our days of living large as teens and watching that sweet grin as you, Jane and Pete ran surf board in hand toward the waves at Jones Beach. Larry from those who knew you back in the day, you will not be forgotten. Rest in peace my friend...Leslie E. Class of '84

To Larry’s wife who I've never met and to his family, I am deeply sorry for your loss. I went to high school with Larry and played lacrosse with him and had many a beer in High school and in college. He and I were also room mates for a year at Embry Riddle. Though we lost contact after college let me express that he was a great person and we should always cherish the good times that we had with him.

To all of Larry's family my deepest sympathy. The loss of Larry has really hit me hard. I have been out of touch for a while, which I regret. When I heard the news I was crushed but then all of the amazing memories I had with him came back to me like it was yesterday. I remember him trying to teach me how to surf he said it was like skateboarding which we did together all the time. I could skateboard. I was a lost cause at Surfing I told him this is nothing like skatboarding. We laughed. I will always remember all of the laughs and great times we had together in High School and after. Rest In Peace "Kato" like I used to call him. You will live in my heart forever. God Bless to you and your family.

Holy Cow!! I can't believe I just heard about this (June 2007). What a terrible loss! To Larry's wife and daughter, my sympathies are with you. I have a picture that Larry sent of Alexa when they lived in AK, what a cutie. I met Larry when I lived in Florida. He was one of the true friends I made in the three years I lived there (2001-2004). I wish we had kept in better touch. I could talk to him about anything. He was the "go to" guy if you ever needed to talk to someone. He was a wonderful guy and I can't believe that he is gone. We kept talking about going surfing together some day. I wish that we had gotten that chance. He will be missed.

Hey Q! I just heard about this today. (Oct 07) I know we didn't keep in touch, but I've always had fond memories of Korea. Your smile and zest for life was truly contagious! You may be gone now from this earth, but you will live on forever in the hearts and minds of all those you touched. I'm quite sure that you have already found a way to teach snowboarding to the Angels in Heaven!
