John Prine to sell out Center for the Arts

Jackson Hole Center for the Arts presents folk-rock songwriting legend John Prine Monday, May 14, at the new Center Theater on South Cache Street.

Prine will be the first musical performer to take the stage inside the 500-seat theater, which is guaranteed to sell out.  Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, April 4, at 10:00 am.

Cost is $65 for orchestra level, $45 for Balcony. Center for the Arts Production Manager Don Kushner, who has been putting on productions with Off Square Theater company for the past 12 years, believes Prine’s music will hit home with the Jackson crowd, “I’m excited about it because I know the demographics of this community,” said Kushner, who believes Prine’s music is an appropriate match for Jackson.

After a nine-year song writing hiatus John Prine is back with twelve original songs.  In that time Prine had a run in with neck cancer that has left his voice deeper with a slight rasp—which, despite the tragic illness, is pleasant to listen to.

Prine’s new songs contain the same clever lyrics and ironic humor that they always have.

“Some Human’s Aint Human,” a shot at George W. Bush, is reminiscent of his Vietnam era hit “Your Flag Decal Won’t Get You into Heaven Anymore,” showing Prine hasn’t lost his ability for sharp political critique.

Prine uses mostly acoustic arrangements of guitar, pedal steel, mandolin, accordion, and piano. His songs range from upbeat and hilarious to bittersweet and sad.
