JACKSON HOLE, Wyo.-- Tom Brokaw's first hosting of NBC’s Meet
the Press will be taped this Saturday evening at the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis resort featuring Gov. Dave Freudenthal and
Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter as guests, the show’s producer, Betsy Fischer,
said.
“Tom [Brokaw] was going to be
doing something at the [Western Governor’s Association]
meeting, so we thought we’d do the show out there,”
Fischer said. “We thought it would be a good time to do a show
about western issues.”
She said the show will address the
“battleground of the west” and the western states’
relevance in the electoral map in November.
NBC recently announced that Brokaw will
replace former host Tim Russert through the November elections. Russert died earlier this month.
Brokaw will ask the governors questions
covering a variety of western political issues, such as energy and
the environment, Fischer said.
Cara Eastwood, Freudenthal’s
press secretary, said they are expecting to tape on Saturday. The
show will air on Sunday morning.
When asked how Freudenthal viewed the
opportunity to appear before millions of viewers, she said that since
he has a “special consideration for Wyoming based media,”
he probably sees the appearance on the nationally known political
talk show to be little more than an “interesting interview.”
Freudenthal is the president of the
Western Governor’s Association and the host of this year’s
annual convention taking place in Jackson from June 29 to July 1 in
Teton Village.
