Avalanche death at resort

Jackson Hole, Wyo. – Teton County Sheriff’s office issued a statement at 7:40 p.m., Saturday, confirming the avalanche death of a 31-year-old Wilson, Wyo. resident at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

At 1:33 p.m., David Nodine snowboarded into the Tower Three Chute, off Thunder Lift, and fell, the statement said. While correcting himself, Nodine was swept downhill by a three-to-four-foot deep slab avalanche that buried him under five to six feet of debris for eight to 10 minutes. Nodine wore a helmet and avalanche transceiver.

After friends and onlookers dug him free from the slide, they immediately began CPR, continued by JHMR ski patrol, according to the Sherrif's office. At 2:24 p.m., however, Nodine was pronounced dead at the JHMR Medical Clinic. Teton County Coroner’s Office declared his an accidental death by suffocation.

“It’s unknown at this time whether Nodine triggered the avalanche that killed him or if skiers above Nodine initiated the deadly slide,” the statement said.

Though the expert Tower Three Chute are inbounds, it is unclear if the area was open or “roped off” for safety. However, Bridger-Teton Forest Avalanche Center reports that the slopes had been skied before Nodine went down, and the area had been “subject to avalanche reduction efforts” that morning.

The sheriff’s office reports that JHMR Ski Patrol will continue its investigation. PJH

The Tower Three Chute are[grammar] inbounds... ...was "roped off"[punctuation]... How do you spell "proofreader"?
