Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Classical music hounds should head to Teton Village this weekend for a wintry slice of the Grand Teton Music Festival.

Although the summertime festival mostly hibernates in the winter, GTMF makes a few special appearances during the snowy season.

This weekend, the Chamber Music for Woodwind Quintent includes flutist Melissa Suhr, oboist Lora Schaefer-Berndt, Ben Freimuth on the clarinet, Juan de Gomar on the bassoon and Alberto Suarez commanding the horn.

Visiting artists, taking the stage for these performances, will also spend time in valley classrooms for the GTMF’s music education program, Music in Our Schools.

“We always tell the musicians to emphasize why they like music,” said GTMF artistic associate Kristin Morrison.

This week, artists who typically perform mini-concerts and discuss classical pieces and instruments to school children, will visit Wilson Elementary and Journeys Schoo
l.

Next week, the String Quintent, performing March 19 at Walk Festival Hall, will sit down with students at Alta and Jackson Hole Elementary and Middle Schools. PJH
The Chamber Music for Woodwind Quintent concert begins at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, at Walk Festival Hall.

Admission is free for students; adult tickets are $10. The Woodwind Quintent will also perform a free concert at 3:45 p.m., Thursday at St. John’s Living Center, 625 E. Broadway. Call 733-1128 or visit www.gtmf.org.
