R.I.P Marty, you were the most kind hearted man that i have ever met. you will be missed greatly.
MAYNARDS

Are we going to get a name here? Seems unfair that the person responsible has still not been listed. For those of you interested, you may search the county sheriff's website and easily locate the name of the individual. Appears he is a local business owner in Jackson.
Bob

Also the update describes the vehicle as a Chevy Tahoe. It was definitely a GMC Yukon. The first story was correct.
Bob

They hadn't released his name officially to the media as of a short while ago. But we'll check back again and see if that's changed. JHW
JHW

BTW, the WY Highway Patrol said it was a Chevy Tahoe that hit him, and that's official. However, witnesses at the scene may have given different accounts.
JHW

Excellent reporting JHW. The daily still has not even mentioned this accident. Kudos to the consistent updating !!!
Greg in JH

Why doesn't someone just say the guys name Nathaniel Anthony Hubbs?
Karen

We're updating it now. We can only release names as they are released to us. Sorry.
JHW

Never heard of the guy. What business does he own?
Dan

Radio Shack
Karen

He does not own radio shack, he works there.
Kelly

Our condolences to Marty's family & friends. It was very sad to see a fellow rider go down. A sobering reminder that life is very short & you should never pass up an opportunity to tell those you love that you do. Fellow riders from Twin Falls, ID. Nikki, Gail, Camille & Mary

Easy does it Brandy. I am sorry you lost someone but there are a contingent of us who ride bikes here in Jackson. We feel it important to get the entire story regarding the individual who killed your relative. No need to attack any of us. If anything, I would wonder (if I were you) why something as tragic as this was not being more thoroughly reported. So far, the only two places I have seen this reported is here on our weekly paper and as a small blurb on Channel 8 in Idaho Falls. The story helps ALL of us to be more aware of motorcyclists. I assure you that this is our only intention in getting the story out. Your attack is unnecessary. Again, I am sorry for your loss. What a shame that a fellow resident of mine was responsible.
Greg in JH

The JH Daily has just released tomorrow's report on their website. Apparently, Mr. Hubb has been arrested (ready for this one) FOUR separate times for DUI.
Greg in JH

Oh, and the vehicle IS, in fact a GMC Yukon.
Greg in JH

Sorry people but i strongly agree with Brandy! He has been a great person who will be missed! If people have a problem with the article they need to comment the paper on there own page and time! Not where freinds and family can see you bickering about it! Yes we want the whole story and the truth but this is not the place to fight about who is wrong or right!
n/a

Easy everyone. A slight misunderstanding can get carried away. I think it was important to clarify that the driver was NOT the owner of Radio Shack (after a statement had been made that he was). This is a public forum, and it would not be fair to that individual to be even loosely tied to this tragedy.

I passed this accident on Saturday and have been haunted by it ever since. I am terribly sorry for Martin's family and friends. You are all in my heart and thoughts.

I knew this wonderful person for over twenty years.........The lord wantedy him home, way too soon for the rest of us to say goodbye. My thoughts and prayers are with his family...Lorrie

Does anyone know the out come of the hearing that was today?
B. Johnston

Anon, me too. I drove by minutes after it happened. I couldn't believe my eyes and still haunts me throughout the days. My first thoughts were, who was this poor man who lost his life? So thank you to everyone on this forum who has given us a glimpse into this wonderful man's life. It's helpful for those of us who witnessed this tragedy and provides some memorial to him. He must have been well loved.

Marty was a great man! I worked with him and know his coworker's are so very upset over this great loss. To the reporter who covered the story, please know in the future when you use words to describe an accident "tomahawked" is sincerely a bad choice! What kind a vision are you trying to leave people with? Is it worth it? Would you like to read an article about your loved one and have that be you lasting memory? As Oregon grieves a great loss, Jackson Hole Court's hold your criminals accountable! Why was this man even free to do harm?
Ann

For those who witnessed Marty’s accident, thank you for your prayers. I am praying for you, and hoping that these words will help with those haunting images. My uncle Marty was a wonderful Christian man who gave freely of his time and talents. He was a great cook, and loved the outdoors and spending time with his family. This motorcycle trip was a dream he had, and he died fulfilling that dream. We will miss him deeply, but are comforted knowing that he is in the arms of our Lord Jesus right now. Please be careful when choosing your words, as we are still in shock over this accident and our tears come easy. Thank you to all.
Sherrie

Jackson grieves for Marty too. Marty is part of our community now and it has been an honor to learn about his life. You are blessed to have known him We're sorry for your loss.
Witness

Thanks for prayers for my baby brother. and the meek shall inherit the earth. we all need to remind ourselves of how a siblings loss can affect so many people in so many ways. God loves Marty and I'm suure He will be watching over us to help us poor souls. Again, thank you all for your caring and love for this man. Marty deseverd better than being 'tomahawked', he died a tragic reminder that leaves his family and mine shocked. As far as Hubbs goes, he has to live this day over again and again till death. Drugs can be helpful or in this case demeaning to a man's life.
David Burbey

I am glad to find a forum where others who are grieving over the loss of this fine man can gather and share information & thoughts. I hope that Mr. Hubbs is haunted by this memory of what he has done for the rest of his life. But maybe not. He was too stoned. I hope that everytime he looks into the eyes of his own children he is reminded how Marty has family that will never have that sweet moment again, and how those he has left behind are grieved without this wonderful man's presence in their lives. Justice could not possibly be served as "an eye for an eye". Hubb's life as a man couldn't come close or even be compared or measured to Marty's. It would be an insult to think that it could possibly come out even. He has taken a great man. Marty organized Christmas tree cutting excursions for the whole family, and extended family. He'd bring a stove and cook hot dogs and beans in the snow for all. He'd arrange for the permits. He was alot of fun. This was just one more glimpse of this man that was taken too soon. A repeat offender? How many times do people have to get arrested for this kind of thing? Throw away the keys!!!! God will have the Glory in this tragedy. My prayers go now,to all his family and friends. Albany, Oregon

Dave, I am so sorry and praying for you and your family. Marty sounds like a great, wonderful, caring man that will be missed by all. I second Jackie's thoughts and ((hugs)) to you also. Sherry

I was on vacation with my family when we saw the crash we were at the gas station as we left we saw him beside the ambulance with his body crumbled we didnt know what to do so we kept driving my sister saw his body and started crying i want to but i knew i had to stay strong until now i found this article now im crying knowing i was there
Ziva

I was in the Albertsons parking lot when this happened maybe 50 feet away. Only a drunk could of caused this, there was no explanation for where the truck was going. This was my 19th year of traveling to Jackson in August and I've never seen town more spaced out and dangerous. I had lunch with a friend and the guys next to us slammed 5 beers each and it was 11:30 in the morning then passed us near the elk refuge at 70 miles an hour. The thoughts of this man have stuck with me and my prayers are with the family and his friends. Martin Burbey R.I.P.
Steve

Marty was a wonderful person. When I started working where he worked, he witnessed to me about the Lord. He was a great support and help when I finally gave my life to Christ. I live and work far away now but I am still so very sad because of what has happened. My only solace is KNOWING WITHOUT A DOUBT that he is in heaven with the Lord. My prayers go out to all his family, friends and co-workers.
Mary

I understand fully the grief that has stricken everyone involved, even those who have just meerly heard of the situation, but please remember that there are children and loved ones of Nathaniel's now who have also suffered a great loss...He will have to live with it for the rest of his life, please just have the decency to not hurt the innocent loved ones on both sides of this tragedy, there was one person to blame and so many on both sides that have now suffered and will continue to suffer from now on. As hard as it is to understand or want to hear this, regardless of how he left, he is where God wanted him to be...and now he will be able to watch over all of the loved ones that are missing him so...just remember that.
friend of the innocently involved

This is Ziva again i was only 12 when i saw this im sorry for the family im now 13 but still thinking and praying for the family and my own this could of been my family a family of 4 killed due to a drunk a 13 year old should not have to say this or even think about it i will never forget this no matter how much i want to. Seeing this brings back that painful picture in my mind i had enough pain this added on to the pain thats all my life is right now i will get better though. Not this though this cant get better. Sorry for the family. I didnt know you Martin but you will always be in my mind.
Ziva

I was Marty's first wife. I just learned that Marty had been killed. I went through an old memory box and found pictures of his family I thought he would like to have. I went on the web to find his address and found all the articles about the horrible accident that took his life...what a shock, how terrible for everyone who knew and loved him. Marty and I dated in high school and married shortly after I graduated. We moved to Oregon in 1976, (Marty was a bit wild in his younger years and wanted to come to Oregon for a fresh start). He flew to Oregon in January and I drove out March. We lived in Silverton, Alsea and numerous locations in Albany. The last few times we talked were positive...after we forgave each other for our failed marriage, we made our peace. This last Saturday, while clearing numbers from my caller id log, a number (logged twice on two consecutive days at about the same time) from Salem caught my eye and seemed familiar, but was identified as a pay phone? I called the number and found the calls had been placed from the Oregon State Hospital. Then I remembered there was a pay phone near the kitchen where he worked. According to all I have read, he placed these calls shortly before leaving on his trip to Sturgis. Unfortunately, I was at work when he called and he didn't leave messages. Now wondering...? Although late, please accept my prayers for all who grieve from this tragic and unexpected loss and special prayers to heaven for Marty. Dear Lord, We know Marty is home in heaven with you. We ask that you watch over him so that he is uplifted by your love. Please send extra angels his way to help him with being in heaven and extra angels to all who miss him. Please help everyone to release the heaviness felt as a result of this tragic loss and help his loved ones to heal the feelings of sadness so they may find the peace that Marty would want for them. Amen
Lynn
