Music goods for this weekend

By Aaron Davis

Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Jazz-funk improvisational badass – one of the only musicians you’ll see handling a seven-string guitar with ease – Charlie Hunter and his trio will rock the Knotty Pine in Sunday. In a career spanning 18 years, 14 albums, and a dozen side projects, including Garage A Trois, Hunter just put out his first self-released disc, Baboon Strength. The agile performer simultaneously plays bass lines, rhythm guitar and solos on his instrument. Being heavily inspired from classic organists like Jimmy Smith, he utilizes a Leslie rotary speaker simulator to produce a sound similar to that of a Hammond organ.  Hunter plays 10 p.m., Sunday at the Knotty. 208-787-2866.

Celebrating the one-year anniversary of Live in the Hole on Jackson’s Community Radio, KHOL 89.1 FM, emcee James Booth will host guests Papa Chan and Johnny C Note 6:30 p.m., Wednesday. The guitar and upright bass
duo specializes in 1920s and 30s jazz numbers and has been playing on Friday evenings at Teton Pines. If interested in performing on Live in the Hole, email liveinthehole@jhcr.org.

Local duo Thomas Turiano on guitar and vocalist Valerie Seaberg infuse soul into a repertoire that spans jazz, cool blues, R&B and contemporary folk. Turiano’s percussive-style guitar-fingering and bass-driven chord voicings blend well with Seaburg’s sultry alto. Their songlist is a fun snapshot of American music forms, covering Bonnie Raitt, Rory Block, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Eva Cassidy, and Van Morrison and more. Check them out at 8 p.m. at Alpine Wines in Driggs. Free.
