By Jake Nichols

UPDATE:
In the second brief below, Jake Nichols reports, "Even with sources in the radio business, we couldn’t get our mitts on a copy" of the country song "Jackson Hole."  Thanks to Ted Austin over at Q102 in Idaho, here's the elusive song by James Wesley.

Jackson Hole, Wyoming -
Resi wreck
Resi Stiegler’s latest crash-and-burn – at Copper Mountain last week – made headlines coast-to-coast. The NY and LA Times both mentioned her latest setback.

“Really bummed for her,” three-time Olympian Sarah Schleper said last Thursday after cutting short her giant slalom workout following Stiegler’s crash which fractured two bones in her left leg.

“She’s a lot of good energy for us.”

For Stiegler, it was the latest in the line of injuries which have marred the 24-year-old’s attempt at competing in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Now that’s country
There is no limit to how far we’ll go to uncover news on Jackson Hole and that means, yes, even country music. A new artist by the name of James Wesley will make his debut for B
roken Bow Records Dec. 7 when his first single “Jackson Hole” ships.

Even with sources in the radio business, we couldn’t get our mitts on a copy, but apparently, it is not a remake of the CW McCall hit by the same name. It is supposed to be a great ‘story’ song with a twist.

Massachusetts Turnpike leads to JH
“Head out to Jackson Hole, Wyo., or most ski areas out West and you’re sure to run into a group of shredders from New England.” That’s what the Boston Herald wrote last week. Columnist Dave Wedge also had the nerve to say Massholes, in general, were a bunch of really good skiers.

Of course, Wedge had TGR’s Corey Gavitt (from Centerville, Mass.) to back him up.

“Skiing in the East, because the snow conditions aren’t as soft, you need to learn how to really technically ski,” he said.

Gavitt cut his teeth and dulled his edges on icy New England slopes like Suicide Six and Ascutney.

The crew’s latest flick, Re:Session, played at the House of Blues last weekend in Boston. One thing we did learn from the article: Gavitt is the son of former Boston Celtics GM Dave Gavitt.

Dr. Barrasso tough on healthcare
Here’s what Sen. John Barrasso said about the Health Care Bill: We’ll be wasting our money on fat, lazy, chain-smokers. Seriously, that’s basically what the Wyoming Senator and physician wrote in a piece for the Daily Beast.

What Barrasso wrote, literally, was this: “More than half of the money we spend on healthcare is spent on just five percent of the people. Basically, these are people who eat too much, exercise too little, and smoke.”

The article is generating mostly positive blog response. Google “Patients, Not Government, Can Fix Health Care” to check it out.

Mystery still surrounds murder
We caught some footage the other day on CNN that featured some unmistakable Wyoming scenery. Sure enough, it was an in-depth story on the mysterious slaying of three teenage girls on the Wind River Reservation.

Last June, Elyxis Win, Winter Rose Jenkins, and Alexandrea WhitePlume were found dead in the bedroom of a home in Beaver Creek, a low-income tribal housing community. They overdosed on methadone – a painkiller used to wean addicts off heroin. But it was unclear where it came from or how they got it. The coroner ruled homicide.

The FBI took over the case but CNN reported that many questions remained unanswered. Because the case involves juveniles, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cheyenne wouldn’t confirm that any arrests or prosecutions took place. A U.S. District Court judge in Cheyenne sealed the case dockets, so CNN was unable to confirm the families’ claims that the boys were sentenced as juveniles to less than two years. JHW
