Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Calling the ordinance “antiquated,” the Wyoming Tribune Eagle reported, Monday, that officials in Wyoming’s capital voted to repeal the city’s gambling ordinance.
The City Council voted 8-2 in favor of the repeal and 9-1 to regulate poker in public, the report said.
The rules do not apply to private games.
“The ordinance allows only tournament-style play and stipulates that all winnings must go to the participants,” the report said. “In poker-themed fundraisers, all winnings go to the organization.”
The council also adjusted the required fee, which coincides with the permit, from $25 for all games to the cost of the buy-in, and the organizers cannot recoup the fee from players through a surcharge, which would constitute professional gambling, illegal in the state, the Tribune Eagle said. This point had some community members arguing that it was unfair for the city to charge a fee when private citizens cannot. JHW
