Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Teton County’s unemployment rate in December climbed as high as 9 percent, making it among the periods of highest unemployment seen here in decades, according to data released Monday by the Jackson Hole Chamber of Commerce.

The February edition of the Jackson Hole Economic Dashboard, a monthly roundup of recent economic indicators, also reported sales and use income tax for December was down 34 percent from December ‘08, according to numbers supplied by the Wyoming Dept. of Revenue.

Historically, unemployment is higher in December than January, although employment data will not be available from the state’s Dept. of Workforce Service until around the first week of March, the local economic reported stated.
