Origins of oil

Thursday, February 25, 2010

By Christie Koriakin

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Where does gas come from? Well, the gas station of course. Like so many things in our modern lives, we rarely stop to wonder where a product actually comes from.

For commodities as highly coveted as oil and gas, the origin can have serious political and social implications.

Join John Willot, president of the Geologists of Jackson Hole, as he leads a virtual tour of many of the countries, such as Chad, Angola, Venezuela and Brazil that supply the United States with oil and gas. Willot will discuss the diversity of sources as well as technical and cultural issues associated with many of these countries.

Where Does our Oil and Gas Come Form? takes place, 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, at  Teton County Library. Free. 733-2164.

Well most of Jackson used/uses propane until recently when they began to use NG. The Natural gas Jackson uses comes from Jonah and Pinedale hence the pipeline they just put in the Hoback canyon, that no one seemed to care about, because it was going to lower the cost of heating there homes, be much cleaner, and much safer. However they are probably not smart enough to stop fighting the drilling activity which the gas comes from. I doubt he will mention that in his global views on natural resources.
