Tent Party 2010

Jackson Hole, Wyoming - Walking through the coffee isle in Smith’s earlier in the summer, I saw a shining green coffee package with happy, running cartoons. The package said, “Old Bill’s Fun Run.” Being new to Jackson, I had no idea who Old Bill was, so I did what we all do with life’s little mysteries, and googled it. I was brought to the organization’s website, where I became a little less of a new person and a bit closer to being local. Old Bill’s Fun Run began in 1997 with an unknown couple who were called Mr. and Mrs. Old Bill. At the first annual run, only 680 valley residents participated. That number jumped to 3,300 last year. The site also stated that “over the past 13 years, this event has helped local charities raise over $67.5 million.” These numbers support the many claims that Jackson Hole has a close and supportive community. But, in order to beat last year’s numbers, you have to sign up. You can do that at the Fun Run Tent Party where they are not only taking registrations, but also giving out free T-shirts to participants. By signing up, you get to collaborate with your community, raise money and run/walk off all the beer you drank this summer.
Fun Run Tent Party is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 6, Community Foundation of Jackson Hole. Donations Accepted. www.cfjacksonhole.org.

Actually, Ben (I assume this is Ben, since the writer talks about being new), your otherwise informative piece needs some factual clarification: Since Labor Day is the 6th, the tent party actually STARTS Tuesday, the 7th, and runs for two more days, the 8th and 9th, also at the noted hours, 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. Where? Glad you asked: it's at Community Foundation HQ, 255 East Simpson Ave., just east of the Willow Street intersection and the county admin building. The tent party is a great idea, because you get to register for free for Old Bill's (you pay $20 Saturday), get the t-shirt (maybe a baseball cap if you beg), and miss all the Saturday pandemonium from registration procrastinators. So it's all good. And, I just tied up all the when and where to your what, who and why for this great event.

BTW, all the Old Bill's details are at the Community Foundation's site: www.cfjacksonhole.org

Our community is lucky to have him, his family, and so many others who chip in to make Jackson a finer community. The money raised puts many people to work and helps many fine non-profits provide needed services in our valley... a tip of the hat to Old Bill.
