People who depend on the START Bus for transportation around town and the valley should note that buses will not run this Thursday. Thanksgiving is the only day of the year on which START Bus does not provide service.

The Teton County Library will not open Thanksgiving Day, but on Friday it will return to normal operating hours.

Additional holiday closures include the Center for the Arts, the National Museum of Wildlife Art and the Teton County Recreation Center. Dancers’ Workshop will be holding only its morning beginning Pilates and Zumba classes.

New Alta library to open
The Teton County Library will mark the return of its most bucolic branch on Tuesday, when the new Alta library building opens.

The Alta library moved from an outmoded and outdated building to a temporary bookmobile in summer 2008. During construction of the new building, library staff and users coped with cramped quarters and experienced drafty conditions during cold weather, according to Alta branch manager Gretchen Notzold.
The new building was worth the inconvenience, she said.

“It feels so spacious,” Notzold said. “I don’t feel like I’m in a cave anymore. It’s like something from a fairytale.”

Notzold said the library’s entire collection has been enlarged. There are two computers designated for use by children, and three for adults. The public can reserve a meeting room with the latest audio-visual capabilities. Library staff have an office for the first time.

In the winter months, a Teton Valley, Idaho, pathways organization will groom a Nordic track around the facility, allowing children and adults a place to skate ski while friends and relatives use the library.

The new building has lots of windows that let in natural light and offer views of the west side of the main Teton peaks.

“We have a sitting area with one of the better views for a library anywhere in the world,” Notzold said.

The popular story time events for children will return on Feb. 3.JHW

I prefer tidiness and comfort, but I do not want these things if they are too expensive, either in dollars or liberty. In recent months I have witness many issues of concern right here in Jackson Hole. Some of my concerns are about private choices, but these are private and therefore no business of mine or the government’s. The bigger concerns all have to do with the choices made by people employed with government, most of whom are personal friends. Whether our economy is flooded with purchases made on credit and citizens are dancing joyously about or whether we are in times of financial challenge, some people have been spending the money they took from us unwisely and have been hindering individual progress. The $25,000,000 of money taken from us and given to the Airport for expansion and remodel, the $400,000 taken from us for pretty signs in Jackson and the money taken from us to be spent to defeat the entrepreneurial dreams of RV rental companies and mentally ill homeless cabbies is wasteful. I prefer fast & efficient airports. I prefer having informative signs 106.023 inches from the curb. I prefer clean taxicabs that are inexpensive. I am however, having trouble stretching my sense of morality to embrace the concept of the taking of citizen’s capital by force by those calling themselves government, especially when it is not used wisely. I hereby extend my apologies to all the producers out there. I for one do not condone the taking of your capitol by those with guns and wonderful intentions for the purpose of fulfilling my preferences.
