Jackson Skids
I just obtained a DVD-R copy of KGB productions short film “Jackson Skids,” a parody of the flamboyant MTV show, “Cribs,” shot here in the slums of Jackson, Wyo. Slums in Jackson? Indeed, moving to Jackson and scumming it out for a bit is a right of passage. Some skid for life, others move on. If you haven’t lived in a skid, I suggest moving out of your parent’s second home and getting in touch with reality, pronto. Or just watch this DVD.
Although it may be a couple of years old at this point, it’s spot on, and should be watched by everyone who lives here. Will KGB continue to make more episodes, diving deeper into the skid underworld? I hope so, but it’s doubtful.
MTV’s “Cribs” focuses on platinum rappers or star athletes who have gone from rags to riches and purchased multimillion-dollar homes. “Jackson Skids” shows quite the opposite, focusing on affluent kids living in squalor (it’s hard to become a ski bum without abusing a few privileges).
I shed a tear when the cinematographer opened up an outhouse door to reveal a skid resident pinching a loaf and reading the Planet. God bless our readership.
On another level, the shanties of Jackson Hole are platinum by default. Even with no running water and sporadic electricity, land is worth so much here that shacks are worth millions. With Jackson skids increasingly under fire by big time developers, an entire lifestyle (species?) is threatened. Save the Skids.

When confronted, one paper thief allegedly admitted it was because that particular issue included a story (a brief, actually) that she and her friends didn’t like.
By now, we’re used to having people express their displeasure with the Planet. We not only expect it, we encourage it. It’s called dialogue and it’s generally accepted to be healthy and constructive. But rounding up all the copies of the offending issue is not.
That’s just immature, not to mention futile. News is news, after all, and if it’s information that people are interested in learning about, it’s information that will get out one way or another. Oh, and it’s also illegal, thanks to a ordinance recently passed by the Town Council.
