The Planet staff rules on the week’s best and worst.

Snow heroes
The Wyoming Department of Transportation had to deal with multiple road closures this past week due to avalanches, high winds, and motorists in ditches.
Workers and players alike get where they want to be by the grace of WYDOT, so let’s not take them for granted.

Getting a cut
Those of us who were trained to leave copious tips in the craftily decorated tip cans at the counters of Hard Drive Café, and the like, were mystified when at the Albertson’s Starbucks there was nary a can in site. Well, 2008 will be remembered as the year of giving, as a new tip receptacle has appeared. Oh but wait, what’s this I overhear? Albertsons management is keeping half the tips?

Democrats - remember those guys?
Team Blue - the Democrats - are caucusing as scheduled this cycle and keeping their delegates in tact. While the Republican caucus garnered scant media attention outside of this paper, it still eclipsed coverage for Wyoming Dems. Voters have until Feb. 22 to register as Democrats to participate in the March 8 county caucuses and conventions.

Strange service
It is inevitable that you will, on occasion, have a friend as your server when dining out in Jackson.   But when you’re trying to dine in a formal spot, it can be awkward. No one wants their friends waiting on them hand and foot. Then of course you have to tip your friend. How much do you tip your friend? It’s great to be pampered, but I’d rather be pampered by a stranger.
