Up Your Glass
I had a long letter written in order to rationalize my proposal, but it was too long to qualify for “letters to the editor.” In the letter I recalled many of the droughts that our area has experienced through the years and the negative effects they had on our community, so to make a long story short allow me to summarize.

How much water is wasted because sprinkler systems are activated by timers instead of moisture detectors or the amount of water that just goes down the drain in order to keep pipes from freezing in the winter? I don’t know I’m not intelligent enough to figure it out but I assure you it’s a lot.

My proposal I believe will shine a spotlight on Teton County if adopted by the community.

I’m not a sensitive guy but it pains me to witness the quantity of water our local restaurants are wasting daily.

When we are seated at a table the first thing a waiter or waitress does is to bring a menu and water, either by the glass or pitcher, most of the water goes unused and just dumped down the sink.

A simple solution to this waste of a valuable asset is for the eateries to have a policy of asking their clients if they would like water to be supplied, and for customers to decline the offer of water if they don’t intend to indulge, also to be considered is the money saved on water bills, so this policy is also a financial plus.
If this policy is adopted by our community on a volunteer basis, our newspapers could display in large type Teton County Goes Dry!

Our community could set an example for the State and who knows the Country if they see the benefit of this rational practice.

So with a bit of dry humor lets up our glass and not drink to this.
P.S. Consider the water that has been saved by discontinuing the policy of waterboarding.

Health Care Impatience
As the battle for an acceptable health care package wages on within the chambers of Capitol Hill, the true understanding of the needs for the masses are completely overshadowed by head strong partisan poppy-cock. Those whom strut the halls of Congress, patricians all, have absolutely no clue regarding the necessities of the plebeian majority for whom they claim to be representing.

The American state has obviously taken a Darwinian reversal into a traditional two-class culture. The dream of an egalitarian American republic has all but digressed into an Old World European tradition of a “have and have-not” society. The wealthy (those in Congress) can no more know nor feel the destitution of the needy (the average American) than a blacksmith can instruct a sailor how to sail.
I must give a dose of credit to Barak Obama and his administration for at least attempting to rectify a health care system in shambles. His plan may not near perfection but neither does the very constitution by which we are governed, yet through amendment and adaptation, it survives and functions.

May I merely suggest to those in their Congressional comfort that with the fate of the innocent and powerless within their hands a plea is presented to place their egos and sophomoric team-spirited party politick aside and apply some common sense to achieve a concurrent conclusion for the benefit of those whom provide them with their prestigious positions. The people, their employers, are growing impatient with their pettiness.
