Dead skunk
This is in response to newspaper stories 8/4/10 [Former sheriff: “No cop coroner,” Jackson Hole News&Guide]
A coroner investigates, by inquest, the cause of deaths not clearly by natural causes. He keeps the chain of custody of any evidence he finds on the body. He investigates the death scene jointly with law enforcement, orders toxicology samples (he does not take them himself), inventories property, evidence and medications on the body. He also notifies family members and transports the body. If a forensic autopsy is required a forensic pathologist takes care of that.
I assume someday Kirk, my husband, will call the coroner to pick up my body. The coroner will come, check to see if there are choke marks on my neck and sign the death certificate.
In Wyoming, (Wyo. Statute7-4-208) if there is no coroner or deputy coroner, the county sheriff has the authority to perform the duties of coroner. Gee, Bob?????? Guess you were keeping that under your new Arizona hat.
I’ve known Bob Campbell, Brent Blue and Alan John forever and I’m proud to consider them all my friends. The dirt they have under their carpets “ain’t nothing” compared to the mud under mine.
A skunk died in my barn years ago. It took some time to figure out what the stink was. To this day, when the wind is right, I can still smell that damn skunk

Prop 4 thumbs upOver the past 10 years, I have witnessed first-hand as our community hospital, St. John's Medical Center, has worked diligently to continue to improve its quality of care and increase the range of services offered.
Where many patients had to seek service outside of Jackson Hole - two hours away, five hours away, 10 hours away or even further - today more and more of our friends and neighbors are able to get the care they need on East Broadway, just a few blocks from the Town Square. This not only keeps patients in Jackson Hole, but it also keeps health care dollars in our valley.
From and every-widening range of surgical care and highly advanced cancer treatments to obstetrical services that help us grow our families, St. John's continues to deliver the quality health care our community requires. Just as our many talented and dedicated physicians are required to keep their licenses and skills up to date, so it is incumbent on us as a community to keep our facilities and health care system up to date.
As you consider how to vote in the August 17 SPET ballot, I ask you one question: Do you want to keep that kind of quality and service close at hand?
I plan to vote "yes" on St. John's Hospital's Proposition #4. I hope you will, too.
-Rev. Dr. Jack Swann, Jackson
Gosar for Gov I write this letter in support of Pete Gosar for governor after carefully considering who I would support in the primary August 17th.
Gosar said he endorses quite a bit of what Dave Freudenthal did as governor, but that he is not a “Dave Freudenthal Democrat.” He is a “Pete Gosar Democrat.” I applaud his dedication to run as an individual without relying on Freudenthal’s name and popularity for support.
At the ASUW forum at the University of Wyoming, Leslie Petersen said Wyoming is not ready for same-sex marriage. Politicians in the South took a similar stance regarding desegregation – the people just weren’t ready. On her Facebook page, Petersen does applaud the legislators who voted against HJ 17, but beyond that, I’ve seen little effort to stand up for the rights of the GLBT community.
The Wyoming Democratic Party Platform states: “Wyoming Democrats oppose Government interference in our private lives. We support civil marriage for all...” Gosar is the candidate upholding this important plank in the party’s platform. He said at the same forum, “What’s right is not always popular. This is the true civil rights battle of our day.” He’s correct.
He received a grade of A from the NRA to Petersen’s F. Again, the party’s platform reads: “Wyoming Democrats support the right of citizens to own firearms...” Both my father and brother are hunters. Gosar is the candidate who will balance protecting the Second Amendment and law-abiding gun owners with the interests of the community at large.
I admire his honesty, his tenacity, and his grassroots campaigning. It’s refreshing to see him running as a true Democrat in Wyoming instead of self-moderating to get elected. Gosar earned my respect for his courage as the only candidate to advocate re-examination of the mineral severance tax in order to put our resources to work for all Wyomingites.
Petersen did a marvelous job as party chair. However, I do not believe she is the best person for the governor’s office. I will support Pete Gosar on August 17 and I encourage others to do the same.

Micheli for Gov I want to express why I will be voting for Ron Micheli for Governor of Wyoming. It is really quite simple, I agree with his politics. I believe he shares my values and is a man of integrity, and pure ethics. We need people in the political arena who are willing to make a stand for the constitutional rights and liberties of the people of this State.
While residents of the land of Wyoming are outnumbered by Government owned land, it is vital that we have someone in our small corner looking out for rancher, the independent business owner, the laborers and many others who do not rely on the Government for their living. I believe Ron Micheli is the right person to represent our wonderful state.

Gosar for GovAs the primary election approaches the decision over who is the best candidate for Governor faces all of us in Wyoming. As you contemplate this very important decision I encourage you to vote for the candidate who is most deserving of your vote, Pete Gosar.
Pete has the down to earth, no-nonsense, honest approach to politics that is just the ticket for Wyoming. I encourage you to check out his website for his stance on the issues facing Wyoming. His experience as a high school teacher, pilot, state employee, and small business owner has prepared him to serve Wyoming. With a work ethic like Pete’s, Wyoming would be well served with him in the Governor’s office. Vote for Pete on August 17!

Gosar for Gov I am writing in support of Pete Gosar, Democratic candidate for Governor. Pete is the type of person Wyoming needs in the Governor’s Office. In Wyoming we vote for the person rather than the party. And that person is Pete Gosar. Pete is fit and ready to lead Wyoming into the next decade. He is smart, dedicated, decent, courageous, kind, and honest; qualities each of us in Wyoming admire and desire in our Governor.
I am a registered Republican and have been since I first voted when I turned 18. I am changing parties this election for the sole purpose of voting for Pete. He is an outstanding candidate and Wyoming is fortunate to have such an energetic force desiring to lead Wyoming.
My son is a sixth generation Wyomingite on my side and a fifth generation Wyomingite on his dad’s side. Needless to say Wyoming is part of my blood and extremely important to me and my family. It is because of my desire to preserve and honor my Wyoming values and traditions that I make my choice for Pete. Pete is a Wyoming native with Wyoming values. He puts Wyoming people first and foremost and all other interests are a distant second. His positions on energy, the economy, education and the environment are focus-forward and Wyoming solution based.
When you vote on August 17, Pete Gosar should be your choice. A Wyoming native who is right to lead Wyoming.
