Alpine is the southern gateway to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone Country. Located 36 miles south of Jackson, it features affordable accommodations, recreation opportunities and restaurants. At an elevation of 5,640 feet, Alpine is nestled amid surrounding mountains at the convergence of three pristine rivers – the Greys, Salt and Snake – where they merge into Palisades Reservoir. The Reservoir itself offers incredibl e vistas and water activities, including boating, jet skiing, fishing and water skiing. The nearby Greys River area offers over 471,000 acres of national forest and summer recreation ranging from kayaking and white water rafting to camping, fishing and countless miles of trails for hiking or horseback riding. With an annual snowfall of 500 inches, Alpine attracts many winter athletes for snowshoeing, ice fishing, and skiing. More that 150 miles of groomed snowmobile trails earned Alpine the honor of "Top 5" in the West and "Top 3" in Wyoming from Snow West Magazine's 2002-2003 Winter Guide. Those who want to watch Wyoming's wildlife can also visit the Alpine Feedground, operated by Wyoming Game & Fish, which draws more than one thousand elk from December to April and is accessible right at the edge of town.
