Pinedale, located in western Wyoming's Sublette County – about 78 miles south of Jackson Hole and 100 miles north of Rock Springs along Highway 191 – prides itself as being a home base for outdoor and mountain adventures. Locals dub Pinedale "The Base Camp," because of its access to the beautiful Wind River Mountains and proximity to Jackson Hole, the Tetons and Yellowstone National Park.
The distinctly Western town has a population of about 1,500 people, making it Sublette County's largest community. The elevation of Pinedale is 7,175 feet, and the surrounding mountains tower to more than 13,000 feet. Average summer temperatures are in the 70s and 80s, while winter temperatures average about 15 degrees.
This rural setting provides a home for a diversity of wildlife. Antelope, elk, mule deer, moose, grizzly and black bear and many other species call Sublette County home. The high mountain valley teems with rivers and more than 1,300 lakes. Fremont Lake, Wyoming's second largest natural lake, is located just four miles from Pinedale. White Pine Ski Area and Resort is 10 miles to the east in the Wind River Mountains, and the Continental Divide Snowmobile Trail and Continental Divide Mountain Biking Trail go through Pinedale.
