Jackson Hole, Wyo--Those still pining for Harvest’s chickpea lentil
dahl, huevos rancheros or slow-cooked seven-grain cereal can cease
their pining. This week, Jackson Whole Grocer will open an all-organic
juice, smoothie, espresso and hot food bar in its deli section that
incorporates many of Harvest’s signature dishes.
“We feel sad that all the really wonderful Harvest foods are not
available, and bringing some of those foods over is a step we’re able
to take,” said former Harvest owner and Whole Grocery co-owner Melanie
Harrice, who owns the grocery store with her husband, Bob Arndt.
“People will still be able to get all the signature Jackson Whole
Grocer dishes – all those deli dishes are staying – we’re just adding
on to it.”
All of the food and beverages the new bar will offer will be organic.
“This is the direction we are moving in the store,” Harrice said. “We
want to make the deli 100 percent organic. That’s been our goal all
along. We’re making those changes now, and after the deli is all
organic, we’re looking to get it organically certified by a third-party
organization. We want people to be able to eat consciously and trust
the food that they’re eating and know that they are getting the purest
food out there.”
The hot food bar will offer a variety of meat, vegetarian and vegan
dishes, which are color-coded, so hungry customers will know whether a
dish meets his or her dietary needs.
Up until now, Jackson Whole Grocer has offered prepared foods for
customers who wanted to take home a quick and easy dinner to heat up.
With the addition of the hot bar, all items will be ready to eat at the
store.
“There are a couple little tables where people can hang out and have a
bite so they don’t have to go sit in their cars and eat,” said Harrice.
The hot bar will continue to offer spanikopita, chicken and roasted
veggie pot pies, curried chicken salad, eggplant parmesan, and
different lasagnas in addition to Harvest soups, burritos, turkey
sausage and green curry tofu, to name a few.
“We really want to be balanced and appealing to folks who eat meat and
folks who don’t,” Harrice said. “There are different tastes and needs
out there. I personally have gone back and forth between different
eating habits. Some people go from raw food diets back to eating meat.
Some people are very consistent with their eating habits for a while,
and other people switch around.”
Also offered will be a variety of fair trade coffees, tasty juices and refreshing smoothies.
“We’re bringing over all of our drinks from Harvest – our famous chai
teas, coffee drinks and regular hot teas,” she said. “We’re also going
to be offering our smoothies from Harvest.”
