Steak pub reincarnated as Pete’s Grand Bar & Grill
Following in the footsteps of previous restaurateurs in the same location, Peter Wembel, a Jackson Hole newcomer, will open a humble, locals-oriented restaurant serving basic American fare at Pub Place Centre south of town at 4125 S. Hwy. 89. Pete’s Grand Bar & Grill, a reminder that the spacious patio offers views of the Grand Teton, opens today with grand opening festivities on Friday and Saturday night.

A native of Winnetka, Ill., Wembel has been coming to Jackson Hole for many years and bought the property in January, relocating here permanently only this week.
“This restaurant [location] has a great tradition,” Wembel said. “When it was a steak pub it was very popular… it’s in a great location and what I really really love about it is the deck. The deck is really spectacular.”

Wembel brings with him executive chef John Adam and bar master/front-of-house manager Chris Simons. Adam has been a chef for five years, working largely at steakhouses and most recently at a tapas joint.

Simons is planning to launch a “Workman’s Special,” which would consist of a burger and beer for roughly $6. Prices jump a bit for the entrees, ranging from $12.50 to $20, which include New York strip steak, skirt steak, ribeye, chicken cordon blue, chicken parmesan, fish selections and pasta primavera. (Vegetarians beware – the menu doesn’t offer many options.)

Adam wants to be creative with the menu, offering weekly food specials and incorporating tapas into the more traditional fare.

“This is an opportunity really to serve the community. There’s a real market for this kind of restaurant on the outskirts of town,” Wembel said. “The primary market will be the residents of Rafter J, of Melody Ranch, people who live down valley who want to stop in and have a burger on their way home. And there are a lot of businesses around there that sorely need a luncheon spot.”

With affordable sandwiches (the ham and cheese is just 6 buckaroos!!), Pete’s hopes to become a lunch and dinnertime spot for the Jackson Hole working class. Pete’s will offer draught and bottled beers, liquor and wines by the glass or bottle.

If you’re looking for a laid back atmosphere with friendly staff and breathtaking views, drive the four short miles to Pete’s Grand Bar & Grill. Pete’s will serve lunch from 11-1:30 p.m. and dinner from 4 until approximately 10 p.m. Give a call for more information: 733-4398.
