Jackson Hole’s Saturday morning farmers market on the Town Square may get all the glory, but the Driggs Farmers Market is on the up and up.
For the past five years, Tye Tilt has been organizing the market, which takes place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. every Friday thorough late September in front of Driggs City Hall.
“It’s a good location, right on Main Street, and we’ve got some good venders,” Tilt said. “We have about a dozen.”
There are bakers, people selling flowers and other things from their garden, and farmers with fruits and veggies. There are also a few craft venders – tie-dyers and jewelers – though Tye said he wants to keep the farmers market food oriented.
“Basically, we’re trying to keep it as local as possible,” he said. “There’s a guy that comes up from Ririe with tomatoes and a couple people from Ashton now and then,” but generally people come from nearby with local, sustainable, often organic foods.
Because the Driggs market goes until the end of September, farmers are able to sell potatoes, onions and carrots – vegetables that come up late in the season and therefore aren’t typically offered at the Jackson market, which ends mid-August.
Tilt says the Driggs market attracts people from Rexburg, Idaho Falls and Jackson Hole, though they often are en route to other locations and are simply stopping on their way through. The market also gets a fair number of tourists.
Like the Town Square Farmers Market, the Driggs market also offers live entertainment. It has been supporting young local talent such as fiddlers 7 to 12 years old, a flautist and the occasional drummer.
Stop by the Driggs farmers market every Friday from now until September 28 in downtown Driggs.
