Food News: Off-season specials: get it while it's good

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Though it may seem that the food and drink specials during the spring “mud season” only just expired, it is specials time again. During the next few weeks, the handful of eateries offering a variety of food and drink deals to lure local diners in the door to help offset the slow trade of late October and November will be making good on those offers.

For those in the mood for pasta and authentic takes on Italy’s sundry regional cuisines, head over to Nani’s (242 Glenwood), which, beginning Oct. 22, will offer a two-for-one special on all of their entrees.

Got a taste for sushi?  The contemporary Nikai (225 N. Cache) offers a special menu of $6 rolls, while Shogun (265 W. Broadway) is still considering offering an off-season special.

The Blue Lion (160 N. Millward), which boasts “creative cuisine in an elegant but casual atmosphere,” aims to entice locals to come in for 20 percent off a menu with such offerings as Thai risotto, beef tenderloin au bleu and stuffed Alaskan king salmon.
Over at Merry Piglets Mexican Grille (160 N. Cache) if the prospect of respectable margaritas and free chips and salsa don’t lure you in, a two-for-one deal on fajitas just might.

Look forward to midweek for “Wine Down Wednesday,” at Sweetwater (King and Pearl), when bottles of wine will be half-off not only during the off-season but through the end of ski season!  The restaurant’s management said that had another great bargain coming soon, so check advertisements or contact Sweetwater at a later time to learn more.
A little known secret is that Thai Me Up (75 E. Pearl) will give ten percent off both food and drink year-round if you let them know you’re local (this can often be achieved by bringing along a party of people all wearing “Jackson Hole” sweatshirts and hats).

Interested in libations more than the appetizers and entrees that may follow?  Head to Pete’s Grand Bar & Grill (three miles south of Jackson at Pub Place Center) to enjoy three-for-one drink specials.

Around the start of November, the Silver Dollar Grill at the Wort Hotel will offer two-for one entrees and 43 North (Snow King and Cache) is also eyeing an off-season special beginning sometime next month.

For one of the classic local favorites, sit at the bar downstairs at the Cowboy Steakhouse for a freshly ground burger (they use choice angus scraps) and pint of Pabst Blue Ribbon for $5.  During the off-season, that deal is available from 5-7:30 p.m., as opposed to an earlier cutoff during peak times.

This is not an exhaustive list of all the restaurants offering off-season specials, so check with your favorite eateries to find out more about off-season bargains.
Until the white stuff comes, grab some friends and carpe delicious discounts.
