Slim Pickins: Seven days of suds

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Not only does “summer” in Jackson Hole offer a chance to enjoy spectacular surroundings and adventure, but its also a great time to drink beer. Here are the next seven, or more beers you should have, where and why.
Wednesday Snake River Brew Pub boasts a collection of small brewery awards and unique could-they-get-anymore-hops-in-this-glass beers.

On Wednesdays, locals find their way wandering towards the large wooden bar to watch artist Tom Woodhouse sketch on coasters in the corner and fire down a few of pints of OB-1.

Thursday The hip crowd of Jackson is an entitled group, arriving here from the corners of the United States to preach liberalism and wear skinny jeans. Yours truly included, most of this politically blue smattering of under five-year locals enjoy dark modern bars with candle-lighting and a hip bass-driven deejay. On this Thursday, Koshu opens the deck attached to the dining area. Order a Stella Artois and  watch the beautiful women parade around as dubstep fills the night air.

Friday Neighborhood bar and grill 43 North has changed it up. Adding a more extensive wine list and hiring executive chef Richie Billingham will be a new approach for the location at the base of Snow King. One thing that will stay the same though, is the rooftop deck, which is arguably the best place in town to have a drink as the sun sets in East Jackson. Grab a Mighty Bison Brown Ale by Wildlife Brewery in Victor and watch the kickball games that start below at 5:30 p.m.
Saturday Another deck with a great view is at The Bird, located South of town. Offering a smorgasborg of unique and rare-to-Jackson biers, this burger joint has all the makings for a long afternoon. If sitting on the deck and watching the Teton Range slowly change colors in the distance isn’t your style, you can head inside for a friendly game of pool. Take the free shuttle that departs from the Town Square on the hour and grab a Paulaner Hefeweizen.

Sunday Boom. Flavor is back in your area code and it comes with colored bar lighting and Wu-tang cult kung fu films. Thai Me Up, at the corners of Pearl and King has been brewing beer long enough now for owner Jeremy Tofte to make a name for himself and pick up some awards including the Golden Boot Award for “Best of Show” at Old West Brew Fest. This nano-brewery operation is in a back room and pumps out some of the best attention-to-detail-beers around.

Monday Standing as the hallmark of deck dining and outdoor enjoyment is Dornan’s. The short trek out to this location in Moose is well worth the effort. A large deck takes you up a flight and into a breathtaking view of the Teton Range and the surroundings of the national park. Enjoy another local favorite like Grand Teton Brewing Company’s Bitch Creek ESB as the sky goes from blue to amber to rose and then head back inside to catch the main draw to this establishment on Mondays, the Hootenany.

Tuesday A long week of drinking beers should end with a strong taste of Americana. No other place in Jackson offers a more upbeat environment for throwing back some suds like the Silver Dollar Bar on a Tuesday. Home to house band One Ton Pig on this evening, locals and tourists alike take advantage of the newgrass sound. JHW
