Swing in the Weather
After enduring a three-week cold spell, Jackson Hole was treated to a belated January thaw.
On the morning of Feb. 1, the temperature was 19 degrees below zero in
Jackson. By the afternoon of Feb. 5, the official high in town was 50
degrees. That’s a swing of almost 70 degrees inside of a week.
Amazing!
Warmer temps should be the norm as we get closer to March, and with any
luck, those below-zero temps are behind us, although, the records show
that we have dipped down into the 30-below range before, even in late
February.
Snowfall-wise, February isn’t known to be a big snow month, and
water-wise it is the driest month of the year, on average. However,
there have been some notable exceptions. The two biggest Februarys for
snow in Jackson were back in 1999 with 44 inches, and, prior to that,
in 1978 with 33 inches. Let’s hope for something closer to that to make
up for December and January’s shortfalls.
