Snow pack for April 18, 2007

The End
Unless something truly unusual happens, the fate of the springtime snowpack is pretty predictable. We should see freeze-thaw cycles and fun corny conditions for a bit longer – unless night time temps don’t drop below freezing, in which case we’ll just see a thaw-thaw cycle and a rapid deterioration of conditions.
Snow is bound to persist on north aspects, and don’t be a bit surprised if we do get more snow, maybe even one more big, late season dump, but don’t hold your breath. There’s no doubt about it: The end is nigh.
Predictability, of course, is no reason to throw caution to the wind. The challenge this time of year will be getting out early, racing the sun, traveling at a good clip while the snowpack, stabilized by cold night time temperatures, holds steady, and then getting the hell out of there before the sun turns it into a wet, heavy slide.
Keep an eye on those night time temps – if they don’t get below freezing, consider a run on the inner park road – and don’t forget your sunscreen.
Next week: Biking season is upon us!
