Light it up!

By Scott Fitzgerald

I’m sure you’ve noticed that the prime mountain bike season is upon us. The trails are tacky, the parking lots less crowded, and the weather perfect. Just one problem: The sun is starting its annual retreat, so you’re forced to bail on work early, race to the trailhead, kill yourself setting a ridiculous pace, and suffer through a half-lit descent just to maximize your ride time.

In the end you justify this un-relaxing behavior with thoughts of skiing being right around the corner. Stop the madness! Skiing is months away, and you don’t have to cut your ride short. Just buy some lights, already. You’ve talked about it for years and it’s time to do it.
The light technology is awesome right now!

Go to your local bike shop and ask for an LED with either a lithium ion or nickel metal halide battery. Expect to spend $200 for a really nice light, and consider it a small price to pay for your sanity.
