Winterize your ride

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Judging from the tracks on Teton Pass, you all are no doubt jonesing for some turns, but before you throw your bike into some deep dark corner of your garage, alley, basement or kitchen (Jackson reality), take a couple minutes to put it away in style.
First, give it a good wipe down. Resist the temptation to blast it with the garden hose and instead lovingly clean it by hand with soapy water. OK, a quick rinse with the hose is acceptable. Next, use some degreaser to clean the summer’s grime off your chain and gears.
If you only do one thing, this is it! After your drive train is shiny, coat it with chain lube and wipe of the excess. Don’t worry about how you hang it up – for the most part it doesn’t really matter. If you choose to bring it to your shop for a once over, do it this winter! If you wait ’til spring, don’t freak out when you hear that every shop is two weeks out on tune ups.
Finally, my parting advice: Don’t stop riding! Get the right clothes, put on some studs, buy a snow bike, road trip to Dubois, and just deal with it. Most of the winter the riding is great!
