Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Spring hasn’t exactly made good on its threats to appear with sunshine, early ski mornings and corn. Last week was rather chilly, and aspects that had softened remained hard for a few days midweek. Really hard, as in challenging skiing conditions, icy bootpacks, and laugh-out-loud, hilariously bad (deafening) skiing.

Things softened up and fun skiing came at the end of last week. And while we had a couple of scary mushy days, howling winter winds and snow returned over the weekend. This coming week, it looks like more of the same. The predictable spring routine has yet to arrive. Some days, it will be necessary to get out early, while others will allow a little extra sleep.

As far as slides go, danger will generally remain low. But with snow and wind forecast through next week, steep starting zones could still potentially move on skiers. And if it does get really warm, use your judgment - if it is too late and mushy, avoid the wet slide! Turn around and give it a go the next day.

On a final note, the forecasters at www.jhavalanche.org have called it a season after much hard work. Let’s send out plenty of thanks to those guys after a long season.
