Bicycle commuting

By Scott Fitzgerald

So you want to be a bike commuter, huh? Great! Now, wake up early for work, pack a change of clothes, search for a backpack, dig through the garage for your lock, grab a headlamp, pump up the tires, try to figure out which way to go to avoid the most traffic … oh, forget it, you’re late anyway. So just jump in the car and get going.

Sound familiar? Unfortunately, the best intentions are sometimes thwarted by the simple details of execution. Don’t worry. You can overcome all these obstacles with a little preparation. Before commuting for the first day, set yourself up for success by pumping up your tires, finding the lock, buying some real bike lights and pre-riding your route all on the weekend BEFORE your first ride. How about driving on Monday and leaving a few changes of clothes at work for the rest of the week? Maybe a new basket, pannier, or bike bag is all you need to get psyched for the new commuting season. Whatever it takes to get you on the bike and out of the car will be well worth it!

I have recently seen several bicycle riders pulled over and ticketed by local policemen. Until now I did not know what laws applied to bikes as opposed to automobiles so I have published all the laws in the Wyoming Statues relevant to bicycles here (http://www.wyomingissues.com/transportation/102). Yes, riding with no hands is illegal.
