Teton Pass Update

Wednesday, June 24, 2009

By Scott Fitzgerald

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-Had a great time this weekend riding Jimmy’s Mom and the Parallel Trail on Teton Pass. The Freedom Riders have spent the wet spring buffing out these trails / adding new jumps and berms. Judging by the number of cars in the parking lot, these trails are seeing some heavy traffic and heavy traffic can lead to conflict. So, a couple reminders: Parallel, Jimmy’s Mom, and Lithium are Forest Service sanctioned DH trails.

Please avoid uphill traffic. Say “Hi,” “What’s up?,” “How’s it going?” a little bit louder and deliberately when you’re wearing a full-face helmet. If you’re walking back up to hit a jump again be heads-up of riders coming down from above. Get to know the trail builders who made these trails happen, and buy them a beer. Thank a Forest Service employee any chance you get. Be patient with new riders. Remember, you weren’t always a superstar either.

While up there, I got some more trail info: Arrow Trail gets mudded out at the Snow Tel turn off. The Forest Service / Friend’s of Pathways have cleared Blacks and Phillips of downfall, but they are still snowed out at the top. Lithium is rideable if you don’t mind pushing the snow at the top.  Stay out of the gully below the Galende. Good luck Wednesday night at the Cache Game Race, and good luck to Jay and Tray on the Tour Divide! www.TourDivide.org.
