Bike park bliss

By Scott Fitzgerald

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-I had a great weekend riding our local bike park. Wow, I’ve waited a long time to say that!  Yes, the Victor Bike Park is now a reality after a huge four-day push with master bike park designer/builder Jay Hoots. What started as flat bare ground on Thursday is now a world class pump track and dirt jump facility adjacent to Pioneer Park on Elm St in Victor.

With the help of local excavators and more than 60 volunteers, we pushed, pulled, raked, and shaped 1300 cubic yards of dirt.  For those of you unfamiliar with dirt yardage, that’s about 100 dump truck loads. Fortunately for us, riding the park was an integral part of construction – nothing shapes a berm like bike tires.  As soon as Jay gave the word to start riding I was blown away at the diversity on hand.

Everyone from little kids fresh off training wheels to parents on their xc bikes to local dirt jump rippers were stoked on the park.  Mission accomplished!  Now come ride it!
The list of who to thank is too long for this piece, so log onto www.victorvelo.blogspot.com.
