Take it when you can

Thursday, June 10, 2010

By Andy Zimmerman

Jackson Hole, Wyo.-We’re all doing it: waking up in the morning, looking out the window and checking for any sign of blue sky.  You see it - yes!  You scramble up close enough to the window to peak at the ground, it’s dry.  Mother of god - the ground is dry!  And you may only have an hour window to take advantage of it.  Plenty of time to put your gear together, jump on your steed and haul your ass up to the top of Putt-Putt, a glorious trail.

For the next hour you find summer.  There are people running the trails, riding their bikes, kids playing and dogs chasing balls.  Everyone has a smile on their face.  You’re sucking wind, and stoked to be alive.

Heading down now, you and your bike are one, picking up speed, dodging a stump, jumping a rock, skidding to stop, taking in the view.

Peering over town, there she is, Glory Bowl, you know her well.  And just above her comes the clouds.  Time to move!

Finally riding through town the taste of summer is coming to another end.  But you were there when it happened.  And you will be there the next time it comes.
?You saw the opportunity and took it, like a proper Jacksonite.  And we raise our glass to you.  Well done Jackson, well done. JHW
