Jackson Hole, Wyo.-In these tough economic times, area businesses are coming up with ways to help people spend what little money they have left on things that make them feel they don’t have as little money as they have.
Enter Hope Bonds.
This week, a new local nonprofit comprising area businesses will offer the bonds at all member locations. Hope4Jackson came up with the idea when they saw that people were struggling in the down economy.
“We asked ourselves what people needed most during these times that could be bought with money,” said Richard Banker, H4M president. “The problem was consumers weren’t buying the idea that lowered costs on goods were for their benefit, even if a few who aren’t suffering really took advantage of our price-niceness. We needed to reach more people with less money.”
H4M decided that nothing was more consumer-friendly than the possibility of good things happening through the purchasing of certain wares. Certain ancient symbols representing good things have long been available at any number of markets, and they have sold well to people seeking “Serenity,” “Peace” and “Wisdom,” or people who want to give the impression they already have those things.
Hope, Banker said, is the most calming idea because it often encourages people to take comfort in what they are already doing. The outcome exists in the future, and is therefore eternally marketable.
Hope Bonds come in the form of a “semi-permanent” tattoo of a circle meant to imitate a wristband. It can be removed with laser surgery whenever they mature. JHW
