Jackson Hole, Wyo.-A potential home buyer who turned down the opportunity to purchase an affordable unit in the new Pearl Necklace at Jackson said he did so because of an unusual toilet arrangement.
Valley worker Syd Mendenhal said he had waited three years to be selected for the county’s affordable housing program, and was told last week he could purchase a unit in the new mixed-use building for $225,000.
However, when Mendenhal toured the tiny condo, he learned it had a fold-away toilet, similar to the way a Murphy bed pulls down from a wall.
“I was like, ‘Wait. What?,” Mendenhall said.
A county affordable housing official said fold-away toilets are commonly found in “very urban areas” and are popular among developers looking to maximize space.
“We offer a wide variety of products to meet the needs of a variety of workers,” a county spokesperson said.
Officials call that particular one-room model “The Fashionista.” JHW
